In the Spotlight: Decentralised Energy Service

Changes in the Structure of Energy Generation

In Germany alone, the drive to phase out nuclear energy and the age distribution of existing power-plants will result in a demand for new powerplant capacity amounting to approx. 40,000 MW by the year 2020. This corresponds to roughly one third of total gross powerplant capacity currently available in Germany. It is this background that has triggered the present debate on the form that future energy mixes should take and how to implement new technologies for generating energy with centralised and, especially, decentralised systems.

Shaping the Structure of Energy Service of the Future

The future begins today: This statement could hardly be more appropriate for a sector than for the energy industry. Due to the long investment cycles, the future structure that will ensure the supply of energy service in Germany will be determined today and in the coming years. The declared objectives of German energy policy will be to shape generation as environment-friendly as possible while conserving valuable resources without allowing the burden to fall too greatly on consumers.
