Sales and Earnings Improve

Compared to last year, sales were up by 18% from Euro 87 million to Euro 103 million. This growth primarily resulted from higher sales for energy services at MVV Energie AG, at Energieversorgung Offenbach AG (EVO) and at Köthen Energie GmbH. Furthermore, our participations – BfE Institut für Energie und Umwelt GmbH, AWATECH GmbH Abwasser und Technik and MVV Industriekraftwerk Ludwigshafen GmbH – were also able to increase their sales. We had no sales in our innovations portfolio for fiscal year 2002/03.

Our energy-services segment still showed a negative EBIT for 2002/03; however, it did improve to Euro –8 million after having Euro –9 million last year. Without proportional restructuring expenditures at EVO and the depreciation on the first generation Powerline modems, it would have had an adjusted EBIT of Euro –5 million. Although adjusted EBIT has dropped nearly by half, the high investments and startup costs, especially for AWATECH‘s water projects and for blanket coverage for Powerline telecommunications service in Mannheim, are reflected in the ongoing loss cycle. Losses for energy services were drastically reduced.
