High Level of Growth in the Czech Republic and Poland

Compared to last year sales in our district-heating business rose by 15% to Euro 248 million. Our participations in Poland and the Czech Republic have played the dominant role by far in this increase; together they contributed Euro 135 million (Euro 103 million last year) or 54% (48% last year) of total sales from district heating. Fiscal year 2002/03 was the first time in which district-heating utilities in Brno, the Czech Republic and Bydgoszcz, Poland, had been consolidated for an entire year; in 2002/03, they achieved sales of Euro 81 million as compared to Euro 60 million for nine months of the previous year. The district-heating utility in Szczecin, Poland, which has been proportionally consolidated since early in fiscal year 2002/03, contributed Euro 11 million in sales growth during the year reported here.

The area to which our Czech group (MVV EPS in Prague) has been supplying district heating includes the cities of Brno, Ceská-Lípa, Decin, Jablonec, Opava, Studénka, Uherské Hradiste und Vsetín, for a total of 640,000 residents. Via MVV ESCO Polska S.A. we have acquired participations in the district-heating utilities in Skarzysko Kamienna, Bydgoszcz and Szczecin, cities with a total of approx. 860,000 residents.

District-heating sales from our fully consolidated domestic companies (MVV Energie AG, Energieversorgung Offenbach AG (EVO), Stadtwerke Ingolstadt Beteiligungen GmbH and Köthen Energie GmbH) rose by 2% over last year to Euro 113 million.
