The MVV Energie Group, in which 5,727 people are now employed, is steadily growing closer together. To form a new and stronger corporate group jointly with our German and European participations represents a major challenge for our personnel work and has shaped fiscal year 2002/03 in this department.

Service Orientation in the Personnel Department
To be able better to master the challenges to meaningful cooperation in our corporate group, we have provided the personnel department at MVV Energie with a new structure that will do justice to its service functions. The emphasis was primarily focussed on bundling know-how in various personnelfunctions and on centralised planning for personnel development measures.
Our most pressing mission in our group personnel management will be to recruit qualified and committed employees as well as to retain and to develop experienced employees within our company. Mounting competition and substantial changes in the regulatory framework for the energy markets require constant scrutiny with regard to which tasks within the group could be viably bundled. This requires a high degree of adaptability and flexibility on the part of our employees with respect to both their qualifications as well as their mobility.
Restructuring Measures Introduced to Our Participations
With the objective of taking advantage of divisional and group synergies, extensive restructuring projects have been introduced to our domestic participations Energieversorgung Offenbach (EVO) as well as the Solingen and Ingolstadt public utilities. With these measures, we intend to create more efficient processes in the technical divisions with a viable and integrated organisation and to establish comparable structures within our corporate group. The purpose is to expand and to strengthen the autonomous competitive positions of the individual participations. In some divisions, personnel cuts may be unavoidable in order to achieve our targets for fiscal year 2003/04. For this purpose, we will work out socially equitable solutions – as in the restructuring measures in Mannheim in recent years – jointly with labour representatives by means of natural attrition or advanced training.
In our foreign participations, new structures will also be worked out and existing process optimised. We have thus conducted a comprehensive commercial and technical survey of the actual status at our district-heating utility in Szczecin during the fiscal year reported here. The next step will be to develop a new structure in accord with the unions during fiscal year 2003/04. Optimisation will also take place at MVV Polska by implementing uniform standards in EDP.
