In fiscal year 2001/02, the following participations were in MVV Energie AG’s
portfolio:
Decentralised and Renewable Energy Technologies
Energy Photovoltaics, Inc., in Princeton, New Jersey, is specialised in manufacturing
photovoltaic systems using thin-film technology. It recently sold a production line in
California, which began operation in 2001. Contracts have been concluded for two
additional production lines in Greece and China.
In October 2002, TriThor GmbH opened its production facility for high-temperature
superconductors at its headquarters in Rheinbach near Bonn; this facility is the only
one of its kind in Europe.
Energy Distribution and Storage
In fiscal year 2001/02, a participation was acquired in another American technology
company, Pentadyne Power Corp. This company has developed high-speed flywheel
technology for such applications as, inter alia, supplying uninterrupted electric
power service. The first units from a preliminary product line are expected to be
made available to customers including MVV Energie AG’s in 2003.
A participation in LiionPower GmbH in Munich has not been successful. This company
largely closed down its activities during the summer of 2002 .
Utility-Enabling Technologies
Main.net Communications, Ltd. in Israel is one of two leaders in the world market for
Powerline technology. The majority of name-brand suppliers had to drop out of this
market because of technical problems. Conversely, Main.net’s technology has proven
to be highly functional. As a consequence, MVV Energie AG has become a trailblazer:
Data and voice transmission via the power grid will be the market of the
future in telecommunications for energy suppliers.
This leadership role is also fitting for Power PLUS Communications AG in Mannheim,
in which MVV Energie AG has a participation as a joint-venture partner, due to its
position as the exclusive provider of this technology in Germany. Thanks to our participation
in Speed-Web Consulting GmbH in Linz, we are also playing a leading role
in Austria.
