Investments in Technology, Know-how and Development
Investments in technologies of the future are also a part of our corporate strategy. In
this way, we intend to tap into potential profitability in future. We have thus been
supplementing our core competencies with external know-how, have been observing
market developments and have been securing a sound market position for our products
in timely fashion. We have also been combining the dynamic energy of young
technology companies with MVV Energie AG’s financial power and experience by
acquiring participations. Although aware of the risks involved in providing venture
capital, we are nevertheless convinced that the opportunities outweigh the risks.
Venture Capital for Innovative Participations
These activities have been bundled in our corporate venture-capital subsidiary, MVV
Innovationsportfolio AG & Co. KGaA. This fund is managed by ACCERA Venture
Partners AG in Mannheim and has an investment volume of Euro 40 million available
as well as a long-term perspective of ten years. These participations have come
from the technology sectors for generating and supplying energy. During the last fiscal
year, the liquidity ratio has been increased as a reaction to the difficult situation
on the venture-capital market and to minimise risks. Several planned participations
have also been put on hold for the time being. In this context, MVV Energie AG has
successfully transacted a trade sale of DeWind AG as the strategic objectives of this
co-operation have been achieved by MVV Energie AG with the 100% takeover of
Eternegy GmbH (formerly RED Project Management GmbH).
