Once again I am pleased to be able to report a successful business year for your company. In an unusually strong growth phase, MVV Energie AG has achieved the best entrepreneurial results in its history despite a difficult market climate. In interviews I am often asked: “What is the reason for MVV Energie AG‘s success?“ When I reply, I always describe the growth strategy that our company has been consistently pursuing, which is discussed in the chapter on Strategies in this Annual Report. In so doing, I am often reminded of a quotation by Nobel laureate Friedrich August von Hayek: “Competition is a process of discovery.” Our success is based on our willingness to make new discoveries. We can look back on a long tradition as well as extensive experience. And we have been actively meeting the challenge of ever increasing competition. In recent years, we have had competition to thank that we have been better able to perceive our own strengths and capabilities, to eliminate our weaknesses and vulnerabilities as well as to discover new windows of opportunity for our company and ourselves. Tradition, innovation, entrepreneurial resolve as well as employees with know-how and grit have long since constituted the real energies, which have accounted for our continued success.
