Dr. Rudolf Schulten, CEO of MVV Energie AG, will leave the company as of 31 December 2008 in order to take on another management role in the German energy sector. He has therefore requested the Chairman of the Supervisory Board, Mannheim's Lord High Mayor Dr. Peter Kurz, to terminate his employment contract, which runs until 30 September 2013, prematurely. Dr. Kurz will recommend to the Supervisory Board to consent to Dr. Schulten's request.
Schulten has been Chairman of the Executive Board at MVV Energie AG since 1 October 2003. Following a strategic realignment aimed at achieving profitable growth, the group of companies has expanded greatly in recent years, while at the same time significantly increasing its profitability. The value of the company, measured in terms of its stock market capitalisation, has virtually trebled over this period.
"This was an extremely difficult decision for me to take", explained Schulten. "However, I am certain that MVV Energie AG will maintain its success story. The prospects for the company remain excellent."
In an initial statement, the Chairman of the Supervisory Board, Dr. Kurz commented that he very much regretted Dr. Schulten's decision, but had to accept it. "MVV Energie AG has performed superbly under his management in recent years and is now a successful autonomous municipal utility network and one of the leading companies in the fields of energy-related services and renewable energies. We will continue to pursue this course. On a personal note, I would like to take this opportunity of already thanking Dr. Schulten for our working relationship, which is close and based on mutual trust."
