Against the background of a difficult market climate, MVV Energie AG in Mannheim has increased its total sales by 15% to nearly DM 1.3 billion according to preliminary figures from the IAS annual financial statements for fiscal year 1999/2000 (balance sheet date: September 30, 2000). This growth in sales was 12% when adjusted for charges for electricity taxes and increases in the natural gas tax, which we passed on to customers. In the highly competitive power market, the electricity volume rose by 52% compared to last year to 3 836 million kWh thanks to the expanded power-trading activities of MVV Energie AG. Power sales grew by 9% despite the enormous pressure on electricity rates. At DM 191.5 million, earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) were 4% above the level of last year. Earnings before taxes (EBT) rose 40% to DM 155.3 million.
Finally, earnings after taxes improved by 43% to DM 93.8 million. Based on the adjusted sales of MVV Energie AG, this computes to an EBIT-to-total sales ratio for earnings after taxes of 7.9% compared to 6.2% last year (+27.4%). The earnings-to-equity ratio went up from 7.8% to 8.7% (+10.1%).
Return on capital employed (ROCE) of MVV Energie AG amounted to 11.9% (12.4% last year). The final figures from the annual financial statements for fiscal year 1999/2000 will be published at a press conference to present the MVV balance sheet on January 24, 2001.
