EBIT increases by 5.3 %in nine months - Electric power volume up 45.8 %. Mannheim, August 11, 2000. - During the first three quarters of fiscal year 1999/2000, MVV Energie AG was able to counter the general trend in its sector by further improving both sales and earnings.. Sales rose by 12.8 % to DM 964.9 million (DM 855.7 million last year). When adjusted for the electricity and natural gas taxes, sales increased by 7.9 % to DM 879.0 million (DM 814.8 million). Earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) increased 5.3 % to DM 169.5 million (DM 160.9 million). Compared to last year, net earnings after taxes grew by 38.8 % to DM 81.6 million (DM 58.8 million). Cash flow was up 5.7 % to DM 136.2 million (DM 128.9 million).

MVV's electric power division showed an increase in both sales and earnings. Deliveries of electric power increased by 45.8 % to 2.597 billion kWh (1.781 billion kWh), of which 759 million kWh (56 million kWh) or nearly 30 % stemmed from our expanding power-trading business with secondary distributors. Sales in electric power rose 8.2 % to DM 305.4 (282.2) million (3.1 % when adjusted for the electricity tax). Sales in MVV's value-added services business rose 49.7 % to DM 23.8 million (DM 15.9 million) during the first nine months of fiscal year 1999/2000.
