MVV Energie AG Increases EBIT by 13 % to DM 184.3 Million

Mannheim, December 13, 1999. The Supervisory Board of MVV Energie AG in Mannheim finalized the financial statements for fiscal year 1998/99 at its meeting on December 13, 1999. Thanks to its concerted activities in power trading, deliveries of electricity rose by 13.4 % to 2.53 billion kilowatt hours. According to the financial statements, sales increased by approx. 2 % to DM 1.1 billion. Sales in electric power were up 2.1 % despite the massive pressure on rates and prices in the second half of fiscal year 1998/99. Earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) were 13 % above last year's figures at DM 184.3 million. Earnings before taxes climbed 46.2 % to DM 111.1 million. Net earnings after taxes improved substantially to DM 65.6 million (+ 49.4 %). The EBIT to total sales ratio increased to 16.8 % (1997/98: 15.1 %). The return on capital employed (ROCE) amounted to 12.4 % (11.7 %).
